Casa Morandi

house museum Via Fondazza  36, 40125 Bologna (Bologna, Emilia-Romagna)

The house where painter Giorgio Morandi lived with his sisters from 1910 to 1964 - the year of his death - was opened to the public on October 17, 2009, the result of a donation that Carlo Zucchini, guarantor of the house appointed by Maria Teresa Morandi, generously made to the city of Bologna.
An interesting exhibition puts multimedia technology to good use, and allows visitors to perceive the Morandi atmosphere in detail: the artist's studio with his personal belongings, his library, color proofing on the walls.
Vases, bottles, shells and study models are now back in the atelier and in the store-room, which have been reconstructed according to philological procedures. Furniture and some of the works of ancient art belonging to the family have been repositioned in the anteroom.
The exhibition - including a careful selection of photographs, books and documents, on display in elegant cases - tells about crucial times in the life of the master, his relationships with the family, his artistic development, the top personalities from the world of cinema and art he happened to meet.
Audio-video installations, a library with more than six hundred volumes, and a multipurpose meeting room for seminars and cultural activities, help explore further and revisit the personality and the work of the great artist from Bologna.

Credits for the pictures above must be acknowledged to Roberto Serra from Iguana Press, to whom Case Museo in Italia is grateful.
